Been doing some pro-active "safe mobility" maintenance. Physical therapy and Occupational therapy for my gait, activities, and overall strength. Whew! And a lot more napping in-between. 00:45:34 Christine: Not sure why I cant raise my hand. Might be because I am not on the app. 00:45:46 Larry in Alberta, Canada: Hello James... 00:46:42 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: It really surprises me how MUCH recovery time it takes from an hour of physical therapy. There should be a study on Shaken Babies as they grow up, if there hasn't been yet. 00:53:21 Heather Tumey: Brilliant!! 00:53:34 Heather Tumey: You are on to something 00:54:38 CHRISTIAN J: Takes time 2 get a hold of!!! 00:55:35 CHRISTIAN J: Hudson Brewer had a book that helps 00:56:45 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: Replying to "I was thinking the o..." It is heartbreaking. Too many adults think it is cute or okay to shake or toss children around. I even believe there is damage from high speed roller coasters and amusement park rides that goes unrecognized. There are warnings on the rides for "height" but parents don't realize those height roles might also indicate brain maturity. 00:57:30 Zerra: Reacted to "I was thinking the other day how Shaken Babies go through a TBI but not knowing what their "normal" would have been, those that recover might not realize life struggles they might have that parents see as "normal" to them and don't realize they might need support or interventions. I take dramamine and I've been fine. I always take my cane when flying for support. Also, why not try going on a boat ride like whale watching where it's a short period and see how it goes. 01:13:03 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: Slow down, pay attention, observe, listen--Be patient and plan--helpful for everyday living as well as travel. 01:13:41 CHRISTIAN J: Everywhere I go, I always find spots to sit and rest, I take naps in my car all the time! 01:14:00 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: Reacted to "Everywhere I go, I ..." with ๐Ÿฅฐ 01:14:12 Zerra: Reacted to "Everywhere I go, I always find spots to sit and rest, I take naps in my car all the time!" with ๐Ÿ‘Œ 01:14:15 Robert: Thank you for all the information it helps to get help god bless my cousin April Fernandes for putting in touch with your great group 01:14:27 Kirk Paige: Be prepared with the cane on a plane. A lot of Security won't let you have a cane. 01:14:50 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: Replying to "Everywhere I go, I ..." I keep a "nap kit" in my car too. A neck support pillow, eye mask, and a beach towel or blanket. 01:14:59 Marc: I've been on two ocean cruises, one river cruise, and numerous flights. Haven't had any trouble. 01:16:10 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: Replying to "Everywhere I go, I ..." oh, and I carry earplugs too. Just remember to leave the window open a little bit. 01:16:47 Rob N: Start taking the Dramamine a day before you go to fully get it in your system. Taking it just before is less effective. Iโ€™ve flown a number of times and the flight was ok but there was always a physical/emotional toll to pay after the flight. For me it meant a day of rest once I landed 01:16:49 Natalia - Speech tx Group: Casa took a group to Ontario Aiport and got them. Dramamine before and daily through the cruise. Have fresh air made the trip much easier. Did on without and it wasnโ€™t good 01:22:56 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: Well before scheduling your first flight after TBI you can test your ability to change altitude by having someone drive you up a mountain. Take a "field trip" to a mountain community where you can walk or hike or shop and hang out for awhile before coming back down. You can determine on an easier basis how well you can tolerate the altitude change. 01:23:17 VinCenT: NYC 01:23:44 Heather Tumey: where do you get the card 01:23:53 Heather Tumey: is it part of the lanyard? 01:23:56 Marc: I put the Brain Injury card on the sunflower lanyard. 01:24:11 Natalia - Speech tx Group: We're heading out, Thank you all! 01:24:49 CHRISTIAN J: www.brainlaw com 01:25:23 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: https://brainlaw.com/brain-injuries/card/ 01:27:23 Samsung SM-G996U: Replying to "Thats brilliant abou..." But it's good to try out things becuase we will never know if we can if we put limits on ourselves. We survived a TBI, so we are stronger than we think! A few months ago I went to Japan- Survived a 12 hour flight, got through a Japan's airport, figured out transportation and walked billions of steps (it is true, just walk walk walk!) all without knowing the language. Everone was so nice and helpful. I was scared to go, but oh how much fun it was! 01:31:42 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: Carrie, Is it a feeling only associated with oncoming anxiety or is it an awareness sensation that seems to just randomly occur? 01:33:23 Pilar: Anxiety can be alot especially when you arenโ€™t familiar with the symptoms that is can cause. Sadly im used to it now after many years of panic attacks! 01:33:31 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: One thing that helps is to "reframe" by naming OUTLOUD the feeling that is arriving. By naming it outloud it gets it out of your head and interrupts the sensation. 01:34:26 James Manley: Thanks for the refresher on relaxation/finding your anchors! Can anxiety also come from random post-TBI emotional dysregulation? 01:34:40 Zerra: Reacted to "Thanks for the refresher on relaxation/finding your anchors! Can anxiety also come from random post-TBI emotional dysregulation?" with โค๏ธ 01:34:57 Celeste Palmer: yes James definitely 01:34:59 Pilar: Plus your body is hypersensitive esp after a TBI and you could just get a wave of anxiety from a sensation you arenโ€™t even aware of, the light changing, a sound, a smell etc. you dont even know why but you just feel a pang of panic or misc anxiety symptoms in your body 01:36:22 amy: Reacted to "Plus your body is hy..." with ๐Ÿ‘ 01:36:54 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: Replying to "One thing that helps..." LIke a naturally occurring pain reliever...what happens when someone stubs their toe? They usually cry outloud OUCH. It doesn't completely take the pain away but it reframes the brain to think---"what happened? Am I okay? Maybe I should check it out to see if it is bleeding or broken? Am I in danger? " This talking out loud uses a different part of the brain and can help to calm the part that is hurting or out of order. 01:36:56 Heather Tumey: shame on them! i am so sorry 01:37:05 Heather Tumey: you ar brave 01:37:11 Zerra: Reacted to "you ar brave" with โค๏ธ 01:37:27 Pilar: Suzanne im sorry you had to deal with that people can be so selfish sometimes 01:37:37 Zerra: Reacted to "Suzanne im sorry you had to deal with that people can be so selfish sometimes" with โค๏ธ 01:37:56 Samsung SM-G996U: ๐Ÿ˜ก 01:38:04 Beatrice: Thank you for sharing Suzanne. 01:38:12 James Manley: I'm glad you shared your story Suzanne, and the strategies for calming - yet another reminder that you can use them anytime, anywhere! 01:38:30 Lorrie "Tigerlily" Herrmann: Replying to "One thing that helps..." Even to simply say aloud "I am hurting. Do I need help?" can reframe the mind. 01:39:23 Pilar: I think folks get mad about service dogs sometimes because personally ive had people claim they have a service dog who is just their pet they want to bring on the plane etc, with no vest or anything. 01:39:35 Beatrice: What kind of dog is Bella? 01:40:05 James Manley: Reacted to "Plus your body is hy..." with ๐Ÿ™ 01:40:49 Pilar: Yeah people do abuse the service animal thing, so maybe thats why people get mad but obviously threatening you is insane 01:41:53 CHRISTIAN J: We have to do a documentary on tbi life and show the world how we live! 01:43:11 Beatrice: Replying to "We have to do a do..."
